
His Story
Phillip Henderson is Managing Director of Kyard SG, the Singapore-based unit of a global family office. He established Kyard SG in 2022 and has built a team of investment, finance and family services professionals that work in concert with their colleagues in Hong Kong and North America. Phillip also serves as the CEO of the Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Global, a position he has held since 2019. He leads the Foundation’s worldwide grantmaking initiatives, which support the arts, Buddhist studies, animal welfare, environmental conservation, and other areas of significance to the Ho family. In addition, he oversees the Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Hong Kong, which is dedicated to promoting arts and community well-being in the family's ancestral home.
Previously, Phillip served for 11 years as President of the Surdna Foundation, a New York-based family foundation with a $1 billion endowment. Under his leadership, the Foundation championed sustainable communities across the United States through investments in economic development, the environment, and the arts.
Before his tenure at Surdna, he was at the German Marshall Fund of the United States for a decade. There he was Vice President, and he managed daily operations and provided strategic direction to the institution. During his time at GMF, he played pivotal roles in advancing civil society initiatives, including chairing the Trust for Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe and establishing both the Belgrade-based Balkan Trust for Democracy and the Bucharest-based Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation.
Early in his career, Phillip worked at the Civic Education Project, a nonprofit organization committed to higher education reform in post-communist Central and Eastern Europe. At the Civic Education Project, he was a lecturer in Economics at the University of Timisoara and served as Country Director in Romania. He later served as Deputy Director for Central and Eastern Europe.
Phillip has served on several nonprofit boards during his career, including as a founding board member and long-time chairperson of the Romanian American Foundation, Romania’s largest private grantmaking institution.
