Maleeka Hassan

Her Story

Maleeka is passionate about advancing social impact and policy solutions that address complex social challenges across Asia. In her role at RIA, she has worked on a broad range of issue areas, from health to safety and support for vulnerable communities, helping to catalyse impactful solutions and partnerships across the region.

Originally from Sri Lanka, Maleeka interned with The Asia Foundation, where she worked closely with low-income minority communities to strengthen inter-ethnic relations while supporting entrepreneurship and education initiatives that expanded economic opportunities. She also contributed to policy research and public discourse through work with Verité Research and the Advocata Institute, where she helped draft policy memos and Op-Eds focused on strengthening Sri Lanka’s economic resilience.
In Singapore, her experiences at the Asia Philanthropy Circle and the ECCA Family Foundation deepened her engagement with innovative projects addressing diverse societal challenges, further cementing her commitment to the field.

Across her work, Maleeka is driven by the belief that thoughtful policy, collaborative philanthropy, and empowering vulnerable communities are key to addressing Asia’s most pressing challenges.
She holds a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) from Yale-NUS College, where she focused on socio-political issues in Asia. She was also part of the first cohort for the WINGS Acting Together to Lift Up Philanthropy (LUP) Training of Trainers (ToT) programme, which equips participants with the tools to map and strengthen philanthropy support ecosystems.

Outside of work, she enjoys running, and immersing herself in the arts -- her love for theatre never quits!
